whatever you do, it won't be painless. you can try lifting the nail with cotton or something, or cut away the part of the skin.
the alternate is to have toenail surgery, which isn't really comfortable afterwards for a few days, but the real stick is when the doctor gives you the anesthesia shot right into your toe before the surgery, boy howdy does that hurt and HOW!
