My boyfriends toenail is greenish and very flaky/brittle?

should he go to the doctors or should he ask pharmacist for something???any ideas what this might be??My boyfriends toenail is greenish and very flaky/brittle?
It's a nail fungus. The doctor will give you drugs which can have unpleasant side effects, or he can give you a special varnish to paint on. My husband tried the first two (the drugs gave him a severe skin reaction) and varnish didn't seem to work. He eventually cured it with neat Tea Trea Oil - it takes time because it takes about a year for your toenail to fully grow out.My boyfriends toenail is greenish and very flaky/brittle?
Sounds like it is infected. I had the same problem, kinda, and went to the doctors, got 10 day antibiotics - which 75% work most of the time which i was part of the 25% that didn't work - and if they don't work, the toenail will have to come off, sorry to say, i've got 2 of mine off and i have not regretted it at all :)
Nail fungus infection suspected.

Consult a dermatologist.
There was a guy like that on 'Embarrassing Illnesses' on Ch4 last week, and he'd been suffering 15 years with it. Turned out it was a bacterial infection, and all he needed was 10 days of anti-biotics from the doc.
Sounds like he has picked up a fungal infection in the nail bed . You could try the pharmacist first but if there is no improvement after using any medication he/she gives you then at that stage ask the doctor for advice
it's a nail fungus. it is treatable, but takes 2-3 years of solid treatment and the drugs are quite nasty.
ewww!!!
