For anyone who has ever lost a toenail or fingernail...?

Like, if you injure your nail, it can turn black and fall off (or be pulled off) My question is...

What does it look like underneath the nail? I picture a small hole that provides blood to the underside of the nail..that just is an open wound until the nail grows back. And what does it like when it starts to grow back in?

Just curious! For anyone who has ever lost a toenail or fingernail...?
Actually it's just regular skin underneath that is just very sensitive. The part that supplies the blood to you nail is at the very bottom by the cuticle. When it starts to grow back it just looks like a little short nail! No open wound to deal with, thank goodness because it takes about 6 months for it to grow back! For anyone who has ever lost a toenail or fingernail...?
My sun just lost his finger nail today very very painful. I took him to er. take a year for it to grow back all the way and yes there is a piece of skin there but it will oose for about 7 days.then it will be very easy to hurt for awhile. you need to make sure that you keep it cleaned and cause on it. but use the kind that don't stick if that happens to you I suggest going to the doc
ummm i pulled my toenail allthe way off, and its just like light pink flesh under their, and it will soon become a squishy nail, and will harden and what you see is what you get.

i just wear open toed sheos, or socks with allother shoes...it does feel funny, but doesnt hurt much.
If you smashed it in a car door or something similar,it would at first be black%26amp; blue%26amp; very sore. If oit just comes off on it's own, there's just skin undernieth it,it may be a little sore for a while. It then gets hard%26amp; the nail grows back in.
Ever torn your fingernal/toenail down to the quick? Its like that, all the way down. Just really, really, sensitive skin thats very painful to expose.
theres like a backup nail or somethin, its kinda soft but you can tell its a nail
