I have to go to the doctor for a ingrown toenail today. Does anyone know what they might do to my toe?

Well you will get a shot at the joint..which is called ';a block'; with lidocaine.

then they will snip and cut with a special tool.

and in many cases they take the whole nail..however often they may take just half of it.

You will have gauze around your toe..

You will have to soak it 2x a day just to get the bandages off (real pain) and help promote quicker recovery.

And it will take about 5-6mo's to grow back%26gt;

there ya' have it.

good luckI have to go to the doctor for a ingrown toenail today. Does anyone know what they might do to my toe?
A simple ingrown toenail can be teased back out through soaking and applying cream, but if it is embedded it will need to be removed. I have seen this done on a few people (I am a nurse) and it is a fairly simple procedure.

In the UK, the doctor will completely numb the toe first by injecting a local anaesthetic right into the toe. This is given a few minutes to take effect. Once the toe in numbed completely, the doctor will cut the toenail in half, and remove both halves with a special forceps. The doctor will then apply a solution to the root of the nail to prevent infection and further ingrown toenails. The toe is then dressed wit ha sterile dressing and you can go straight home. A nurse would then usually check the dressing in a weeks time to ensure everything is healing and there are no signs of infection. The process is not entirely painless, but It's much better than having an ingrowing toenail!

I'm not sure how this is done in the rest of the world, but I hope this helps!I have to go to the doctor for a ingrown toenail today. Does anyone know what they might do to my toe?
They will perform a simple surgical procedure. Basically cut your finger open and extract a portion of you toenail. Then off you go
I've had this done twice. Depends on how bad your ingrown toenail is. If it's bad enough for surgery, they will give you a shot of anesthesia to deaden the skin. Then, they'll cut a sliver off your toenail on the side that's ingrown. They'll put a solution inside your toenail base that will prevent growth on the very edge of your toenail to prevent ingrown toenails. Your toenail will look really skinny for a while until it grows back, but over time, it grows back to look like a regular toenail. He'll bandage up your toe and you'll be instructed to stay off your feet whenever you can. You'll have to change your bandages regularly and clean it with a solution such as iodine, which you can get from any drug store or Wal-Mart for cheap. He may also give you some pain medicine in case your toe hurts after anethesia wears off. You'll probably have to go back in a few weeks for a check up.
They will probley go in there and have to clip it out. You can do the same thing at home you go to a pharmacy and buy you a set of these siccor looking clippers or just ask them for clippers to remove ingrown toenails.I have them and they do work saves time and money from going to the doctor .Yes they do hurt when you have to remove them however in a couple days it will feel better good luck today. Don't kick the doctor when he does this (try not to any way)
well they might put a cotton under your toenail and see if it uproots the toenail. it works, i did it at home, not with the doctors and it works, ask for a tiny peice though.
